Employee Giving Program PDF Print E-mail

Never Underestimate the Power of a Few

"Never doubt a small group of thoughtful, committed people can
change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Meade

What is Employee Giving?
Simply put, an employee payroll giving program is one of the easiest and most organized ways to contribute to Summit County and neighboring communities. By leveraging gifts to The Summit Foundation through the workplace, employees and employers alike, can make a positive impact in giving back to the community.

How Does Employee Giving Work?
The program allows employees to make a recurring donation to the Foundation directly through a payroll deduction. Employees pledge a specific, self-determined amount, which is then deducted from each paycheck and the cumulative donations are sent to the Foundation on a regular basis. All donations made through the employee giving program are tax deductible.

To introduce this program, The Summit Foundation staff would provide payroll deduction forms (as approved by management), informational literature on the Foundation, and be available to complete a 10 to 15 minute presentation at one or more staff meetings.

All forms would be collected by the designated staff person (usually the Payroll Coordinator) to enter into the payroll system. The payroll coordinator would then provide a list of contributors to the Foundation so employees would receive general correspondence such as newsletters and event invitations from The Foundation. The Summit Foundation mailing list is confidential and will NOT be shared, sold or otherwise distributed.

If the cumulative pledges through the participating businesses are $4,000 or more, the company can choose to accept the Foundation's Patron Pass, a transferable medallion with skiing privileges generously provided by the ski areas of Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Winter Park.  Cumulative pledges of $5,000 or more would also receive skiing privileges at Vail and Beaver Creek.  A variety of additional benefits, including golf privileges and Nordic center skiing, as well as retail and recreational discounts are included in the Patron Pass Program.  The pledges may also cumulate to enable a business to earn several Patron Passes.

Why Should a Business Give to The Summit Foundation through Employee Giving?

The employee giving program through The Summit Foundation enables employees and employers to:

  • Work together to improve the quality of life for residents of Summit County and neighboring counties
  • Increase a sense of community through linking more closely with The Summit Foundation
  • Raise awareness of the important programs provided by nonprofit organizations and how employees can volunteer
  • Further support the company's commitment to local and neighboring community nonprofit organizations

Companies that encourage and support their employees' efforts to get involved in the community accomplish two goals:

1) they motivate employees who appreciate the company's efforts

2) they strengthen the company's good reputation

In many cases, employers match the contributions provided by employees.

Alpine Bank is one of several businesses that sponsors The Summit Foundation events, while also encouraging its employees to participate in The Foundation’s employee giving program by matching every employee contribution to The Summit Foundation dollar for dollar.

“Alpine Bank’s foundation is built upon serving the communities in which we work and live,” notes Alpine Bank’s Regional President, Larry Reavis.  “Through our contributions to The Summit Foundation, we know we are reaching and supporting the diverse needs our community. We are proud to participate in The Summit Foundation’s employee giving program, as it’s a simple way to make a big impact.”
