Bright Futures Fund
The Bright Futures Fund helps Summit County students turn potential into possibility.
Today, the Bright Futures Fund continues to meet the changing needs of Summit County students as they pursue careers, technical training, and postsecondary education.
Created in celebration of the Summit Foundation's 40th anniversary and powered by community generosity, the fund expands opportunity for local students through larger, multi-year scholarships for low-income and first-generation students, while also strengthening career-connected learning and workforce pathways across Summit County.
Meet the 2026 Bright Futures Scholars
The 2026 Bright Futures Scholars represent the next generation of leadership in Summit County. These students have demonstrated academic excellence, resilience, and a deep commitment to their community. From first-generation college journeys to leadership in service and the outdoors, each scholar reflects the purpose of Bright Futures: expanding opportunity and investing in futures that give back.
Sebastian Borrego
Sebastian Borrego, a Summit High School senior, has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, earning a 4.31 GPA while completing the full International Baccalaureate Diploma and extensive Colorado Mountain College coursework. As a first-generation college-bound student and active member of multiple honor societies, Sebastian pairs academic rigor with leadership and service, including his role as Secretary of the Summit County 4-H Youth Council.
Sebastian views college as an opportunity not only to grow, but to return that growth to others. He is especially interested in improving financial literacy in his community and helping individuals better understand the programs and resources available to them.
Ashley Licea
Ashley Licea is a dedicated Summit High School senior whose experience reflects a strong balance of academics, leadership, and personal drive. A bilingual student and Pre-Collegiate Program participant, Ashley has taken on leadership roles such as Secretary of Mountain Dreamers while also engaging in athletics, student leadership, and multiple honor societies.
Never one to limit herself, Ashley challenged expectations by enrolling in a high school welding class, embracing new skills outside her comfort zone. While her future goals are focused on pursuing pre-law and the power of education to change lives, she carries that same mindset of growth and resilience into everything she does.
Dylan Sullivan
Dylan Sullivan, a Summit High School senior, combines academic excellence with a deep and evolving connection to the outdoors. With a 4.27 GPA and a rigorous course load that includes International Baccalaureate and Colorado Mountain College classes, Dylan has consistently challenged himself both in and out of the classroom.
A leader on the climbing team and an active participant in Nordic skiing, track and field, and mountain biking, Dylan’s passion for environmental science was shaped by a defining moment in his water ecology class. He is driven to preserve the places that have given him so much and encourages others to take every opportunity available to them.
Liliana Cervantes
Liliana Cervantes, a Summit High School senior, stands out for her academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to creating meaningful change. With a 3.9 GPA and involvement in the Pre-Collegiate Program, Liliana has taken on leadership roles including Vice President of Mountain Dreamers while actively participating in service organizations and honor societies.
Inspired by leaders like Julie McCluskie and her older sister, Liliana has embraced academic challenges and is setting her sights on a future in international affairs, with the goal of working at the United Nations to advocate for others and create positive change.
Where Bright Futures Leads
While each new class of Bright Futures Scholars represents what is possible today, their journeys build on a growing story of impact across Summit County.
The impact of Bright Futures extends beyond scholarships. These stories reflect how access to education, mentorship, and opportunity can shape lives, careers, and communities.
