At The Summit Foundation, we believe supporting nonprofits means offering more than a check. It means helping organizations build the tools, confidence, and connections they need to grow their impact and help Summit County thrive.
That vision came to life during the first session of the 2026 Finance Lab Series, part of the Foundation’s Nonprofit Resources Program. The opening workshop welcomed 30 participants representing 23 nonprofit organizations from across Summit County.
The Finance Lab Series focuses on helping nonprofit leaders better understand financial reporting, bookkeeping, forecasting, and the tools needed to communicate organizational health to funders and boards.
“Many of us entered nonprofit work because we are passionate about our missions, not because we were trained financial professionals. This workshop helped make financial concepts feel approachable and practical while giving us tools we can immediately use in our organization, “ Sherri Danyali, Executive Director, Timberline Learning Center.
According to Kathryn Califf, the series is designed to strengthen both organizations and the broader community.
“Providing nonprofits with financial literacy tools helps organizations communicate their needs, pursue additional funding opportunities, and plan for the future. Stronger nonprofit operations ultimately help strengthen the entire Summit County community.”
The next session, Bookkeeping Fundamentals, takes place on June 17, and there are currently 15 spots remaining. The Finance Lab is free to anyone associated with a grantee organization of the Summit Foundation.
