Opening Doors to Healthcare: How Dr. Kendrick Adnan Is Inspiring the Next Generation

At the Summit Foundation, we often talk about what it means to be a philanthropist. It’s not always about writing a check—it’s about showing up, sharing knowledge, and investing in people.

That’s why we are proud to recognize Dr. Kendrick Adnan as the recipient of the David Olbright Outstanding Youth Mentor Award at the 2025 Philanthropy Awards.

Through his leadership at Vail Health, Dr. Adnan is doing something powerful: he’s helping young people see themselves in careers they may have never imagined possible.

Making Healthcare Real for Students

As Urgent Care Medical Director at Vail Health’s Dillon Health Center, Dr. Adnan launched the Vail Health Explorers program in partnership with Summit High School and Summit County Rotary.

The idea is simple, but the impact is anything but.

This program gives local students hands-on exposure to a wide range of healthcare careers—from physical therapy and emergency medicine to orthopedic surgery and clinical care. Students don’t just hear about these fields—they experience them.

They learn how to respond in trauma situations.
They tour surgical facilities.
They earn certifications.
They ask questions, build skills, and most importantly, build confidence.

For many, it’s the first time they can clearly see a future in healthcare—and believe it’s within reach.

Mentorship That Sticks

What sets this program apart isn’t just the access—it’s the mentorship.

Dr. Adnan brings an energy and authenticity that resonates with students. He doesn’t just teach medicine—he makes it approachable, engaging, and real. He creates space for curiosity, encourages questions, and challenges students to think bigger about what they’re capable of.

As one student shared:

“Dr. Adnan makes learning about medicine fun and real. He’s the kind of mentor who listens, challenges us, and makes us believe we can do this.”
Kate Williams, Student Leader, Rotary Healthcare Explorers

That belief—that shift in mindset—is where real change begins.

Building a Stronger Future Workforce

Programs like Vail Health Explorers do more than inspire individuals—they help shape the future of our community.

In Summit County, like many mountain communities, building a sustainable workforce is an ongoing challenge. By connecting students to real-world career pathways early, this program is helping develop the next generation of healthcare professionals who may one day serve right here at home.

It’s a long-term investment with immediate impact:

  • Students gain clarity and direction
  • Local organizations build future talent pipelines
  • Our community grows stronger and more resilient

A Philanthropist in Action

Dr. Adnan’s work reflects both Vail Health’s mission to elevate health and the Summit Foundation’s belief that philanthropy is action.

Our “I Am a Philanthropist” campaign celebrates people who give their time, talent, and heart to strengthen this community. Dr. Adnan embodies that spirit fully.

He reminds us that mentorship is one of the most powerful forms of giving.
That opening a door can change a life.
And that leadership isn’t just about where you’ve been—it’s about who you bring with you.

Thank You, Dr. Adnan

To Dr. Adnan, and to all the partners who make programs like this possible—thank you.

You are helping students not only imagine their future, but step into it.

And in doing so, you are shaping the future of Summit County.
